A day at the spa can be relaxing and rejuvenating. Unfortunately, the bill that comes with it can totally ruin your Zen. If you want to enjoy some “me” time without the price tag, bring the spa to you! Here are some tips to turn average household products into the perfect pampering essentials for your at-home spa experience.
Skin that is dull and flaky requires a good scrub before it can achieve that luminous look. Start with this body scrub to get glowing skin, and follow up with a face scrub.
Body Scrub Ingredients
- 2 cups raw sugar
- 2½ tbsp. honey
- 1½ tbsp. coconut oil
- Juice of one lemon
Mix together and scrub all over your body, avoiding sensitive areas.
Pro Tip: Exfoliate in the shower. The steam will open your pores and increase blood circulation.1
Face Scrub Ingredients
- Fresh strawberries
- ¼ cup raw sugar
- 1 tbsp. coconut oil
Chop strawberries into small pieces and set aside. Mix sugar and oil together until combined well. Use a muddler or spoon to mash the strawberries into the sugar and oil mixture. When you’re ready to use it, gently rub about a tablespoon over your skin and let it sit there for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water. Keep refrigerated when not in use.
Pro Tip: If you have oily skin, exfoliating too often can stimulate your oil glands so keep it to once a week or less.1
Now that you’ve scrubbed away your rough skin, it’s time to spoil your new skin with a hydrating face mask.
- 2 mashed whole avocados
- ½ cup honey
Mix thoroughly, creating a thick paste. Apply to skin and wait 15 minutes before removing with warm water. Pat dry and enjoy your beautiful, moisturized skin.
Pro Tip: Simple and effective, coconut oil is a great choice for a simple body moisturizer. Coconut oil penetrates skin better than other oils and has been found to increase skin hydration and reduce water loss. Plus, it smells great!
